The following guide will help you understand how Groups work and enable you to create and use them to manage your team more efficiently.
To get to Groups;
1. Click Admin.
2. Select Organisation.
3. Select Users & Groups.
4. Select Groups.
Adding User Groups To Your Organisation
All organisations have two 'dynamic' groups set up by default: All Users and All Admins.
When Users are added or removed from your organisation, or their role is changed, they will be automatically added and removed from these groups accordingly.
To create a Custom Group;
1. Click the Add button.
- Enter Group Name.
- Select the Members you want to be part of the group.
- Select the Aircraft that the group members should have Visibility of.
- Enable or disable the group as a Contact for Spidertxt messaging.
- Enable or disable the group to be selectable when configuring Spider X Notifications (Geoevents and Insights)
6. Status - Enable/Disable the group to be available when setting the scope of the Notifications configurations
7. Hit Save
All of the above can be edited at any time. Simply click on the Group to edit.
How Groups' Visibility Works
A user will have visibility of an Aircraft if it is enabled for either their individual User or a Group (or both).
Visibility does not need to be set per individual User if it has been set for a Group the User is a member of.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
If an aircraft's visibility is granted in any one group, it will be considered visible, even if it is denied in another group.
For example, if Jim has visibility to All Aircraft in Group 1 and Group 2 has no visibility, he will still have visibility due to Group 1.
When an invited user signs up and has been given visibility, they will have the power to see all tracks made by your aircraft from that date onward. Any previous tracks, which include any tracks the aircraft might be making at the time, will not be visible.
For example, if John signs up on the 24th of January, he will not see any previous tracks to this, and he will not immediately see the current track if the aircraft is flying. Dave will only be able to see all new tracks made by the aircraft from the start of the new tracks.
How Spidertxt Groups Works
When an Active(A) Group(B) has the Spidertxt(C) option enabled(D), both the Group will appear in the Spidertxt contacts list and show that this group is an available messaging contact.
Notable features of Spidertxt Groups:
- Selecting Groups on the Spidertxt page will show the Name of the Group.
- Sending a message in a Spidertxt Group results in the message being sent to every member of the Group.
- Adding or removing a member from the group will notify other Group members with a system message.
- The list of Members in a Group and the Organisation it exists within can be queried in both web and mobile clients.

How Notification Groups Work
Enabling notifications makes it easier to set up notifications to be sent to a defined user group.
Select Notifications - Spider X
When creating the new Notification configuration, select the Group Name when specifying Recipients.
Any changes to Group membership will automatically be applied to Notifications.
For more information, please see this article: How to Set up Notifications - Spider X
How Status Works
Sometimes the purpose of a Group may be seasonal or linked with Contracts.
To avoid the need to delete a group that is currently unnecessary and then recreate it later, you can suspend the group by changing its state to Inactive. This will hide related messages (if Spidertxt was enabled for this group) and stop notifications (if any are defined with an audience that includes this group).
A group can be changed back to Active at any time.
Deleting a Group
When a Group is no longer needed, it can be deleted by opening the Edit window and selecting Delete.
Dynamic Groups
Note: Dynamic Groups can be renamed, but their membership cannot be manually managed, and they cannot be deleted.
By default:
- Spidertxt is not enabled for dynamic Groups
- Notifications are enabled for the All Admins dynamic Group
