The following article describes how to configure Spidertracks to receive and process CAS event data from the Kopter AW09's Garmin Avionics.
CAS Events shown in the AW09 GIA can be automatically uploaded to the Spidertracks cloud in real-time via satellite communications to enable ground crew notifications and enhanced situational awareness.
Integration Pre-requisites
Required Equipment:
Your Kopter AW09 should meet the following requirements already (ex factory):
- Spidertracks Spider X installed and running firmware v4.28.x or later
- AW09 factory harness connecting the Spider X power and serial comms
Required Supports:
- A mobile device running the Spidertracks mobile application v5.5.x or later.
- A feature toggle in the web interface needs to be enabled.
Please contact support@spidertracks.com to request this.
Installation
The install will be completed at the time of AW09 assembly. For any questions around the hardware installation wiring, please contact Kopter directly.
Setup
The Spider X device needs to be configured to know the connected peripheral is a GIA so that it can correctly receive and process CAS event data.
Note:
- The Spider X and AW09 GIA must both be powered on to complete Setup.
- The Spider X can only support one serial integration at any given time. If the Spider X is configured for an AW09 GIA integration, it cannot support a Keypad or ATU at the same time.
This step is completed via the Spidertracks mobile app. Please follow these instructions:
1. Open the App and log in with the details that you used to sign up on app.spidertracks.io (requires internet connection)
2. Tap More.
3. Select Spider Connection and connect to the Spider X.
4. Tap Connect to pair with your Spider X.
5. Select Advanced Setup.
6. Tap SERIAL DEVICE.
7. Select KOPTER GIA.
8. Check the device connection status:
- A green tick icon indicates that the Spider X is receiving and successfully processing messages from the GIA.
- An orange exclamation icon indicates that the Spider X is receiving messages but is unable to process them. Check that the device selection is correct.
- A red disconnect icon indicates that the Spider X is not receiving any data from the GIA. Check that the GIA is powered and configured correctly and that the wiring is correct.
9. To debug the serial connection, select Device Settings and Diagnostics.
10. The DIAGNOSTICS section shows a real-time stream of serial data being sent from the GIA to the Spider X. Messages from the GIA are in black, and responses from the Spider X are in red.
Verify
When the Serial Integration status is 'Normal' AND the Spider X has a green status indicator, the Spider will be passing AW09 GIA CAS events to the Spidertracks platform. These can be viewed on the map in Flying Page, and in the timeline and on the map in Flight Explorer page.
