What conditions need to be met for Digital Flight Logs to be created?
- You need a Spider X device running the latest firmware
- The Aircraft type must be set to either Fixed Wing or Rotary Wing
Will Digital Flight Logs work with my aircraft?
Digital Flight Log events are supported on most aircraft and for most flight missions.
Aircraft special cases to note:
- Unpowered aircraft: e.g. gliders. The possibility of very low ground speed (into headwinds) makes automated event detection less reliable.
- Rotary Wing with wheels: Engine detection will still work, but rolling taxi events are not supported for rotary wing at this time, and will lead to errors with takeoff/landing event detection.
Aircraft configuration special cases to note:
- Rotary Wing: Engine detection is based on the first engine start and last engine stop. Independent engine detection on twin-engine aircraft is not supported.
Flight mission special cases to note:
- Rotary Wing: One skid or toe ground contact - this will not be counted as a landing
- Rotary Wing: Landings on moving ships will not be detected accurately
- Fixed Wing: Stall events in flight training may trigger a false landing event
- Fixed Wing: Float planes taxiing at speed after landing may cause incorrect landing location
