In this article, we are specifically looking at why account sharing and sharing accounts and using Spidertxt is not recommended.
Account Sharing For Flight Tracking
Sharing accounts within teams is common, however we try to discourage this as much as possible.
Having multiple users sharing accounts with administration access can be a security and privacy risk.
Users with Administrator access can:
Delete tracks.
Change aircraft information.
Change other users' access.
Change other users' Visibility.
Add Aircraft to incorrect AFF / API feeds.
Spidertracks can restore information, but this can take time due to this not being a site issue but rather a security issue.
Multiple Users Sharing Accounts That Use Spidertxt
Account sharing can cause multiple issues with Spidertxt such as:
Delays in the Spidertxt messaging service.
Messages are not being delivered.
Message notifications not activating.
Spidertracks discourages account sharing, we strongly recommend that each person you would like to text has their own account. We do not limit or charge for the amount of members you can have on your account.
For texting to be successful, User A (sender - individual who initiates a message) must be able to directly text User B (recipient- individual who receives the message).
Communication is a two-way process. When multiple users share a single account, this process breaks down because no message is actually sent to an individual.
Instead, users only see a message that another user has recorded in the account, leaving nothing for the intended recipient to directly reply to.
Shared accounts also increase the risk of missed notifications and failed message delivery. When a Spidertxt is sent to a shared account, only the first member who opens it will receive the notification. Other members may not see any alert at all, as the message is already marked as “delivered,” preventing additional notifications from being triggered.
A. In the image below, you can see that all messages are coming from the same user.
In Flight Ops Messaging, all messages appear in a single column. The only difference is that messages from the aircraft will display the aircraft tail number at the beginning, while messages from users on the same account (viewed on the Flying page) will appear without this prefix.
The mobile app will log out every 6 months. An automatic pop-up will alert users to when this will happen which will allow the user plenty of time to log in.
