Many operators value having a large format display showing their live fleet locations. There are a number of options for how this can be achieved, and this article covers the more common options along with considerations and recommendations for best outcomes.
Dedicated PC + Login (Recommended)
Spidertracks recommends a low power, low maintenance solution such as the Lenovo Chromebox Micro in conjunction with a dedicated user account. This PC solution is compact, 4K capable, budget friendly and has power controls to prevent unwanted sleeping, along with controls to automate restore on restart. The low power usage means it can be left running even if the display it drives is switched off overnight - this helps avoid wakeup delays and login hassles.
Shared PC
Mirrored Computer Display
This solution is OK if the screen resolutions match and the PC is being used exclusively for managing flights. Consider privacy etc if usage will include switching to Spidertxt message chats.
Secondary Computer Display
This solution is OK, but note the second instance of the web application should be logged in using a dedicated account to prevent issues with Spidertxt notifications. Due to authentication being shared between tabs, this requires opening the second instance in either a different browser or a new incognito browser window.
Media Stick
Standalone
For example, Firestick TV with Silk browser.
Not recommended: These devices are typically unable to run common browsers and give limited control of scaling, power saving (sleep) settings.
Casting from another PC
For example, chrome cast from Google TV
Not recommended: Outside of key media platforms like Netflix, Chromecast can only share at 720p which results in unclear maps, tracks and text - especially on a 4K TV.
